60th Anniversary for Café Building

The Pavilion Gardens Café is proud to announce that next year is the 60th Anniversary of our splendid little Art Deco Building.
We are planning a programme of events to celebrate this landmark year.
Built between March and October 1950 and designed by a student from Brighton Art College as a result of a competition, we would like to find out his or her name and obtain any copies of drawings or plans that still exist for our archives.
Do you have any information about this important piece of Brighton history?

Please contact us at the café or through the history section of our website where you can contribute stories, pictures and ideas.

Original Wooden Hut

I had the great fortune after 20 years of searching to find a postcard showing my grandfather's refreshment hut adjacent to the Royal Pavilion.
This great find happened at Lewes Market, and shows the original wooden hut in 1944 by the side of the old Brighton Road.
The cafe was here from 1941 to 1950 when the current building was constructed between March and October 1950.
